Basketball fans from around the state may just recognize Ridgeview's newest head coach. Maarty Leunen, a legend in Central Oregon (whose jersey is retired at Redmond High School) has accepted the job of head coach at Ridgeview. In the early 2000s, Leunen was a menace in the Oregon high school basketball scene. He amassed 1,168 points during his time at Redmond, was the Gatorade Player of the Year and led the Panthers to their only boys basketball state championship in 2003. He still holds the Class 5A record for most free throws made in a single season (172).
